A legal requirement for all new motorcyclists
This course is specifically structured by the Driving Standards Agency to provide students with a basic understanding of motorcycles, including theoretical tuition, machine control at the training site and finally on road training, whilst in radio contact with an instructor.
This course is usually of one day’s duration.
Maximum on road Rider/Instructor Ratio: 2:1.
The CBT is split into 5 elements, each one must be completed before moving on to the next.
Element A: Introduction and overview of the day, eyesight test, and a discussion about protective clothing/equipment.
Element B: An introduction to the controls of the machine and daily and weekly safety/maintenance
checks.
Element C: On site motorcycle manoeuvres.
Element D: Pre-
Element E: 2 hour road ride (minimum).
Once all the elements have been completed to a satisfactory level, you will be awarded a CBT certificate (DL196).
A CBT does not allow you to carry pillion passengers or ride on a motorway. You must display L Plates at all times.
To undertake the CBT you must hold a valid UK provisional licence or a full UK driving licence with provisional motorcycle entitlement. If you possess a full driving licence from a European country you will need to apply for a UK counterpart from the DVLA.
