Driving Standards Agency 'Theory Test'

As from 1st February 2001, any person wishing to undertake a practical motorcycle test (excluding CBT) must first pass the DSA Theory Test irrespective of other licence catagories held.

The two part test, undertaken at a DSA Theory Test centre (Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Doncaster etc) consists in the first part, 50 multiple choice questions relating to general riding and is based upon the 'Highway Code'.

To pass you must answer at least 43 questions correctly from a possible 50.

The second part of the test, 'Hazard Perception' involves viewing 14 individual video clips each containing one 'hazard' and one including two hazards.

Five marks is attainable in each video clip with ten marks attainable in the 'two hazard' clip, a pass is achieved with 44 marks from a possible 75.

No matter what your previous driving experience, the Theory Test is a computer based test and all candidates are advised to practice prior to the actual test. Anchor can supply, free of charge (£10 returnable deposit required) literature and computer/DVD aided materials to assist in practicing for the test. Training aids are also available from the Driving Standards Agency or at many high street stationers.
